Easter/Semana Santa Thursday untilEaster  Sunday; especially on Good Friday there are  religious processions all over the country,  for example in Tres Ríos, Cartago and San  Joaquin de Flores.	Día de San José – Saint Joseph’s day, patron  saint of San José.

NOTES:
During Holy Week (starting thursday) and during Christmas the country effectively comes to standstill and many banks, public institutions and shops close. San José turns into a pleasantly quiet city as many Costa Rican families spend their holidays on the beaches.  Hotels tend to fill up during this time and prices go up. You might want to take this into consideration in the case that you plan a trip during Easter or Christmas; try to make reservations in advance or concentrate on less-visited areas during these two special breaks.
